Overview

A powerful low pressure system developed over the Mid Mississippi Valley region. The low strengthened and moved northeast across the OH Valley west of the Appalachian Range. As the warm front developed and lifted north across the Middle Atlantic Region, the area of warm air aloft developed over the forecast area. As rain developed across the forecast area, a cold wedge of air at the surface set the stage for freezing rain mainly over the area north of I-70 and also in the higher elevations in Preston and Tucker counties in West Virginia but also the higher terrain in Westmoreland and Fayette counties.
