Wind:
The third round of storms in about 24 hours complicated cleanup efforts from the previous two events. Widespread damaging winds on the 6th were followed by flash flooding on the night of the 6th. Although thunderstorm wind damage on the 7th was not as widespread in southwest Kentucky as on the 6th, there were pockets of winds up to 70 mph. Western Kentucky bore the brunt of all three rounds of storms. Southwest Indiana was affected most strongly by the third event.
The initial reports of wind damage began in southeast Missouri around noon, when mobile homes were damaged and trees were blown down in Scott County. Bollinger and Cape Girardeau Counties also reported some tree damage. As the line of storms progressed southeast, trees were blown down in Alexander and Saline Counties in southern Illinois. Some trees landed on homes in Galatia, IL.
Wind damage reports became more numerous as the storms moved east through western Kentucky and southwest Indiana during the afternoon. Wind gusts were measured at 60 mph in Evansville, where trees and limbs were blown down. Shingles were torn off roofs in the city. The strong winds continued east across Newburgh, Indiana to Spencer County, where strong winds blew shingles off roofs and damaged siding. In Western Kentucky, trees were blown down near Paducah, causing some new power outages. Wind gusts were estimated from 60 to 70 mph in the cities of Princeton, Madisonville, and Owensboro. Trees and power lines were down. Fallen trees and limbs blocked some roadways.

Environment
The storms moved into a moist and very unstable environment. Mixed-layer capes around 4000 j/kg and surface dew points in the lower to mid 70's were supportive of strong convective updrafts. The line of storms intensified ahead of a 500 mb shortwave trough over the mid and upper Mississippi Valley. A west to southwest flow of very moist air at 850 mb averaged from 20 to 30 knots.
