Overview
A complex of thunderstorms brought spotty wind damage, pockets of flash flooding, and a few tornadoes to southern parts of southeast Missouri and western Kentucky. Most of the activity occurred between midnight and 7 A.M. on May 4.Tornadoes:
The damage survey in Mississippi County, MO revealed a mix of straight-line wind damage and a tornado. Significant microbursts occurred in Calloway County, KY. Considerable damage was observed in and around Hazel, located on the Tennessee border.

The Enhanced Fujita (EF) Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories:
EF0 Weak 65-85 mph |
EF1 Moderate 86-110 mph |
EF2 Significant 111-135 mph |
EF3 Severe 136-165 mph |
EF4 Extreme 166-200 mph |
EF5 Catastrophic 200+ mph |
Flooding
The storms produced around 1 to 3 inches on average. Locally higher amounts up to 5 inches occurred in the Pennyrile region of western Kentucky near Greenville.
Flash flooding of roads was observed along the axis of heaviest rain, which extended from near Doniphan, MO to just south of Poplar Bluff, Paducah, and Madisonville. Somewhat more intense flooding occurred around Greenville, KY, where a couple residences were evacuated.
