Environment
Scattered thunderstorms formed during the heat of the day as a weak cold front and an upper level disturbance moved southeast. A few of the storms developed very large "cores," meaning that the hail and heavy rain extended to great altitudes. One storm near Galatia, Illinois exhibited a core of 64 dbz up to 34,000 feet on the Paducah radar. Baseball size occurred with that core.
