Overview
Numerous thunderstorms developed along a weak warm front draped across the area and ahead of a cold front approaching from the west. Most of the severe weather took place in western KY where damaging winds, hail, and a few tornadoes were reported. Repeated thunderstorms tracking over the same locations also resulted in flash flooding.Tornadoes:
There were numerous tornado warnings issued during this event in portions of western Kentucky. We received several reports of funnel clouds and damage from areas hit by these storms. Storm damage survey teams confirmed two tornadoes occurred, both near Owensboro in Daviess County, KY. The above link shows a radar animation from 2 PM until 9 PM on April 27th. Mini-supercells developed along a weak boundary draped across northwest KY during the late afternoon. Eventually a complex of showers and thunderstorms, moving northeast from western TN and the purhcase area of west KY, merged with these initial cells and swept through the Pennyrile region of western KY and the Evansville Tri-state area.

Rain Reports
The map above shows estimated 72 hour rainfall amounts encompassing April 26th and 27th. Amounts of 1 to 2 inches were common over western KY and southwest IN with some spots seeing in excess of 2 inches. Owensboro, KY saw 2.79" while Evansville, IN picked up 2.55" through this time frame.
