Environment
The cluster of thunderstorms that impacted the area developed in NW Missouri late Thursday night along a stationary frontal boundary. The storms then grew upscale into a large squall line capable of produce scattered to widespread straight line wind damage. The environment locally was quite unstable and weakly capped. Shear to support organized convection was weak, but the thunderstorm complex was likely able to sustain itself by generating a mature cold pool. Additionally, sounding data revealed very dry air in the mid-levels of the atmosphere, which would promote the creation of severe thunderstorm wind gusts via downbursts.
