
A couple of storm systems will impact travel conditions through the first half of this weekend. Heavy snow from the mountains of the West will move into the upper Midwest and upper Great Lakes through tonight. Record warmth and Gulf moisture along and east of the Mississippi River will fuel severe thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, fog for the Tennessee Valley and deep South on Friday into Saturday. This satellite image was taken at 500 pm PDT on 13 Aug 2003. The image clearly shows smoke plumes from several wild fires in British Columbia, western Montana, and one in northwest Washington near Northport. If you look closely, in addition to the large smoke plumes in BC, you'll see several small plumes as well. |
