Lala Approaching Hawaii; Flash Flooding Risks; Excessive Heat

Lala, may become a hurricane, is expected to impact Hawaii this weekend. Heavy rainfall, strong winds, dangerous surf and localized flooding are expected. Heavy rainfall and flash flooding concerns from the mid-Mississippi Valley, Ohio Valley into the central Appalachians continues, with the threat shifting toward the mid-Atlantic later this weekend. Director, Office of Facilities

 

Ben Kyger is the Director of the Office of Facilities (OF). He has the responsibility of establishing, overseeing, and providing strategic direction for the OF, which includes the planning, programming, and budgeting for future NWS facility construction and maintenance, overseeing the leasing and construction of new facilities, and the retrofit, expansion, relocation and maintenance of previously built facilities.

Ben graduated from the California State Polytechnic University and started his career with Electronic Data Systems, eventually becoming an account executive supporting Bethlehem Steel. He went on to work for i2 Technologies as a consulting director, supporting one of their largest clients, Caterpillar Corporation. He became the Deputy Director of NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Prediction Central Operations in March 2006 and served as the center’s Director from 2008 to 2024.
