Lisa Schmit is the co-lead of the Tiger Team Task Force, which is housed within the NWS’s Office of Organizational Excellence (OOE), supporting implementation of recommendations to improve the diversity and culture of the organization, while enhancing the employee experience.

Lisa has over 20 years of service within the National Weather Service, beginning her career in the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP), while enrolled in the Atmospheric Science program at Iowa State University. Throughout her career, she has supported the NWS mission in several capacities, including: Weather Forecast Office (WFO) Des Moines, IA (SCEP) , Aviation Weather Center (Convective Sigmet Forecaster), WFO Kansas City, MO (Forecaster), WFO Twin Cities, MN (SCEP/Forecaster/Lead Forecaster), and WFO Sioux Falls, SD (Meteorologist in Charge). Prior to coming to OOE, Lisa served as Acting Deputy Chief of Staff, providing direct support to the Assistant Administrator for Weather Services (AA) and Deputy Assistant Administrator (DAA) through the development, integration and implementation of policies, strategies, programs, and procedures.

Lisa has a Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Sciences (Meteorology) from Iowa State University (2001), a Master’s in Management from the College of St. Scholastica (2008), and an MBA in Leadership and Change from the College of St. Scholastica (2021).

Lisa is passionate about impact decision support to partners (IDSS), the Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador Initiative, and leading positive growth and change related to culture, leadership, and belonging/inclusivity/diversity/equality efforts in the National Weather Service.
