National Program
Mary Dunbar is one of the Lead National Special Emphasis Program Managers and Equal Opportunity Specialists for the NWS Office of Organizational Excellence’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Program Team. She leads the special emphasis and observances planning for LGBQT+ and Persons with Disabilities awareness projects, mediates and counsels for the EEO program. Over fifteen years with NOAA has shaped her career as a lead and supporter of several initiatives, including the DEIA program’s update of the NWS DEIA Strategic Plan, the program’s outreach activities with Minority Serving Institutions and Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and leadership’s creation of the NWS Diversity Management Council (DMC), and Policy Statements for NWS. Her work with the DOC and NOAA has impacted the NWS’s mission to be an effective Employer of Choice to strengthen its reputation for employee recruitment and retention. Her personal values translate into passion for EEO and DEIA in the workplace. Mary received her DEIA certification from the University of South Florida, her Business Management and Organization certification from the George Washington School of Excellence, Diversity Impact Awards for her work with NOAA Pride and ADAPT ERG’S, NOAA Administrator Awards, letters of praise from DOC/NOAA/NWS leadership, and various training certifications throughout her career attest to her dedication to her work and her colleagues for EEO/DEIA.
