Weather Forecast Office
Arrayed around the outside of the office building are several instruments that help forecasters gather weather information. The parabolic dishes on the left of the photo retrieve satellite pictures and other weather information from satellites orbiting high overhead. They also transmit the forecasts and some of the weather information gathered or produced at this office. The set of instruments in the center of the photo collect local temperature and precipitation data. The elevated white ball on the right side of the picture is the WSR-88D Doppler Radar Dome (radome). Click the NEXT button to learn more about the Doppler radar.
