October 1, 2015 Maury County Flash Flood |
Overview |
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms affected parts of Middle Tennessee during the day on Thursday, October 1, 2015 as an upper level low moved slowly across the region. One isolated thunderstorm developed around Spring Hill during the late morning, and continued to reform and develop in the same area through much of the afternoon. As a result, very heavy rainfall resulted and caused significant flash flooding from 2pm to 7pm across parts of northern Maury County. Numerous roads were flooded and closed, and several water rescues were performed in the Neapolis community. The COOP observer at the Neapolis Ag Center measured 6.35" of rain on October 1, and two buildings at the center were flooded. Radar estimates were even higher west of Neapolis, showing over 9" fell in a small area near Clebourne Road. Other isolated slow-moving thunderstorms caused flash flooding in eastern Coffee County on October 1, particularly around the Hillsboro community, where Betsy Willis Road closed due to flooding and some homes surrounded by flood waters. A CoCoRaHS observer 3.2 miles southeast of Hillsboro measured 5.50" of rain on October 1. |
