PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT ...NWS STORM SURVEY RESULTS... TWO NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE STORM SURVEY TEAMS INVESTIGATED DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE POWERFUL LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS THAT SWEPT THRU MIDDLE TENNESSEE ON THURSDAY. THE NWS RECEIVED REPORTS OF WIND DAMAGE IN NUMEROUS COUNTIES. THE TEAMS WENT TO HICKMAN...DICKSON AND WILSON COUNTIES WHERE THE DAMAGE APPEARED TO BE MORE CONCENTRATED. IN HICKMAN COUNTY...THE SURVEY TEAM ESTIMATED STRAIGHT LINE WINDS OF AROUND 75 TO 80 MPH HIT THE NORTHERN PART OF THE COUNTY NEAR OLD COUNTY LINE ROAD AND HIGHWAY 46 JUST SOUTH OF THE HICKMAN/DICKSON COUNTY LINE. TEN MOBILE HOMES WERE EITHER PUSHED OFF THEIR FOUNDATIONS...HEAVILY DAMAGED OR ROLLED OVER. SOME TREES WERE UPROOTED. IN EXTREME SOUTHERN DICKSON COUNTY...LESS THAN ONE MILE NORTH OF THE HICKMAN COUNTY DAMAGE...THE TEAM ESTIMATED STRAIGHT LINE WINDS OF 60 MPH. SEVERAL TREES WERE SNAPPED OR UPROOTED. AT LEAST ONE FALLEN TREE CAUSED DAMAGE WHEN IT HIT A MOBILE HOME. IN EXTREME EASTERN WILSON COUNTY...NEAR THE WILSON/SMITH COUNTY LINE NORTH OF INTERSTATE 40...THE NWS SURVEY TEAM ESTIMATED STRAIGHT LINE WINDS WINDS AROUND 60 TO 70 MPH. THESE WINDS BLEW OVER SEVERAL TREES...SNAPPED SOME LARGE BRANCHES OFF OTHER TREES...AND HEAVILY DAMAGED A GARAGE. $$ LV |
