An NWS storm survey indicated an F1 tornado (73-112 mph) struck Putnam County. The tornado touched down 1.5 miles east of exit number 280 on I-40, or about 6.2 miles southwest of Cookeville. The tornado continued northeast for about 12.2 miles. The tornado clipped extreme southeast Jackson County as an F0 and ended in Putnam County at 8.1 miles north-northeast of Cookeville at around 11:20 a.m. CST.
One person was killed and another person was injured inside a mobile home on Pippin Road. All 6 sirens in Cookeville sounded for the tornado warning which was issued at 10:50 a.m. CST Wednesday.
