The Winter Service Program is excited to announce the latest initiatives for the upcoming 2019-2020 winter season. This webinar provides an overview of new and ongoing products that serve to keep our core partners and the public informed of the latest winter threats and their anticipated impacts.

Key Highlights:

  • Lake Effect Snow Warnings have been reinstated in Eastern Region, affecting lake effect prone areas south and east of Lakes Erie and Ontario.
  • The experimental Winter Storm Outlook (WSO) launches on or about December 16, 2019, providing the probability of a hazardous snow or ice event during the first three days of the forecast period.
  • The Weather Prediction Center (WPC) will be testing winter Key Messages associated with significant winter storm threats, analogous to the Key Messages provided for tropical cyclones.
  • The Winter Storm Severity Index (WSSI) is in its final experimental season, now extended to all 116 weather forecast offices in the contiguous U.S.
