Snow in the Intermountain West; Critical Fire Weather Conditions in the Central U.S.

A Pacific Storm will bring colder temperatures and widespread mountain snow to much of the Intermountain West through the end of the week. Elevated to critical fire weather conditions will persist over parts of the northern and central Plains, the Great Basin, and the northern Gulf Coast Thursday where widespread Red Flag Warnings have been issued. Santa Cruz area has been added to the Red Flag Warning. Offshore winds of 25-35 mph with gusts to 45 mph, isolated gusts to 65 mph across the highest terrain and ridgetops in tandem with daytime relative humidity as low as 10% will result in critical fire weather conditions Thursday night - Saturday.
Northerly winds of 20-30 mph with gusts to 50 mph in the North Bay Interior Mountains, Interior East Bay, and Eastern Santa Clara Hills. These are dry, offshore winds that will increase fire danger. A Red Flag Warning remains in effect from 11 PM Thursday - 5 PM Friday.
A Beach Hazards Statement is now in effect through 9 PM Wednesday. Moderate period northwest swell with breaking waves of 6-8 feet and a moderate risk for sneaker waves are expected. Never turn your back on the ocean!
