Severe Thunderstorms in the Central U.S.; Record Temperatures Likely for Eastern U.S.

Several rounds of severe thunderstorms and heavy rain are forecast from the southern Plains to the Midwest through Friday. Large hail, damaging wind gusts, and tornadoes are possible. A significant warm-up is expected for much of the Eastern U.S. into next week. Several daily record temperature records are likely to be broken. 🌬️ Impactful Winds Through Late Week Windy conditions are expected tonight through Friday across the San Francisco Bay Area and Central Coast. There is medium to high confidence for north to northwest wind gusts greater than 40 mph, especially near the coast and in higher elevations. Winds are expected to shift more northerly to northeasterly (offshore) by Friday afternoon. Potential Impacts: • Secure loose outdoor items • Be prepared for hazardous driving conditions, especially for lightweight and high-profile vehicles • Some fire spread is possible in areas of dry vegetation that have received less rainfall this winter Stay tuned for forecast updates as we continue to monitor the wind event.
