A period of snow showers resulting in accumulations primarily in high terrain will last beginning Thursday afternoon lasting until Friday morning. Several inches of snow accumulation in the highest peaks of the mountains and Virginia ridges will be possible. Valley snow likely to be light. A light dusting of snow up to a half inch is also possible on the central and northern portions of the Plateau and southwest NC.
Today and Friday will be much colder and breezy. Snowfall is also likely across the higher elevations Thursday evening into Friday. The weekend will be dry with a warming trend.
