COUNTY IN FLORIDA. THE HIGHEST LEVELS OCCURRED BETWEEN MIDNIGHT
AND 400 AM ON SEPTEMBER 16 AS IVAN MOVED ASHORE...WITH PEAK
VALUES LIKELY OCCURRING ACROSS SOUTHEAST BALDWIN COUNTY AND
SOUTHWEST ESCAMBIA COUNTY.E. BEACH EROSION...
EXTENSIVE BEACH EROSION IN BALDWIN...ESCAMBIA...OKALOOSA
AND SANTA ROSA COUNTIES.F. FLOODING...
MAJOR FLASH FLOODING OCCURRED IN EASTERN BALDWIN AND WESTERN
ESCAMBIA COUNTIES AS RADAR ESTIMATED HOURLY RAINFALL TOTALS
APPROACHING 10 INCHES AS THE EYEWALL MOVED INLAND OVER THIS
AREA. MODERATE RIVER FLOODING OCCURRED ALONG AND EAST OF THE
TRACK OF IVAN.G. TORNADOES...
NONE CONFIRMED...HOWEVER VERY HIGH WINDS ASSOCIATED WITH THE
EYEWALL OF IVAN RESULTED IN NUMEROUS REPORTS OF POSSIBLE
TORNADOES. THESE REPORTS WERE MOST LIKELY THE RESULT OF INTENSE
WINDS IN THE EYEWALL...AND NOT FROM TORNADOES.H. STORM EFFECTS...
PRELIMINARY DAMAGE SURVEYS INDICATE THAT THIS WILL LIKELY BE
THE MOST DESTRUCTIVE HURRICANE TO HIT BALDWIN...ESCAMBIA...
SANTA ROSA AND OKALOOSA COUNTIES IN OVER A HUNDRED YEARS.
PRELIMINARY DAMAGE ESTIMATES COULD EXCEED 5 BILLION DOLLARS.
CONSIDERABLE WIND DAMAGE OCCURRED ACROSS ALL OF OUR INLAND
COUNTIES...ESPECIALLY ALONG A NORTH-SOUTH LINE EXTENDING FROM
ATMORE TO MONROEVILLE TO CAMDEN. PRELIMINARY DEATH TOTALS WERE 13
DIRECTLY ATTRIBUTED TO IVAN.
