Snow Across the Great Lakes, Central Appalachians, and Northeast; Unsettled Weather in the West

Light to moderate snow will continue into Saturday over the Great Lakes, Central Appalachians, and Northeast. This weekend into next week, a series of atmospheric rivers will bring gusty winds, periods of heavy rain, and mountain snow to northern California and the Pacific Northwest. The 100 fathom line is sometimes used to approximate the west wall of the Gulf Stream. The following table lists the distance to the 100 fathom line from selected locations:

Note: The NWS west wall positions in the Coastal Waters Forecast are based on satellite derived Sea Surface Temperatures and often reflect warm eddies intruding onto the Continental Shelf.
