Severe Drought (D2) continues across northern Indiana Southern Indiana designation free U.S. Drought Monitor Drought intensity and Extent D2 (Severe Drought): Carroll, Clinton, Howard, Madison, Tippecanoe, Tipton D1 (Moderate Drought): Boone, Clay, Delaware, Fountain, Hamilton, Hendricks, Montgomery, Parke, Putnam, Randolph, Vermillion, Vigo, Warren D0 (Abnormally Dry): Hancock, Henry, Marion, Sullivan Recent Change in Drought Intensity Four Week Drought Monitor Class Change 1 to 2 class improvement over southern and central counties No change in most northern counties Precipitation Near to above normal precipitation was the rule across much of the state the past 30 days (100 to 200%), however, a swath from western Indiana heading northeast to the IN/MI/OH border was below normal (50 to 100%) Summary of Impacts Hydrologic Impacts Continued reports of low pond, wetland and creek levels (County Extension Drought Input) Agricultural Impacts Soil moisture remains below normal for central and northern Indiana Fire Hazard Impacts None reported Other Impacts None reported Mitigation Actions None reported Hydrologic Conditions and Impacts Generally southern parts of the state are seeing near normal streamflow, with northern parts of the state seeing below normal streamflow. The White and East Fork White basins are near normal flow with the Wabash seeing below normal flow Agricultural Impacts Soil moisture is below normal across parts of northern and central Indiana and near normal over southern Indiana Seven Day Precipitation Forecast The seven day precipitation forecast shows 0.01 to 0.25 inches of precipitation across northwestern parts of the state increasing to 0.75 to 1.25 along the Ohio River Drought Outlook Drought is predicted to persist across the northern half or so of Indiana through December, but end by the end of February
