Winter/Spring Flood Outlook for Central Pennsylvania Valid March 21, 2025 Issued by: WFO State College Contact Information: ctp.stormreports@noaa.gov Next update due by April 4, 2025 This product will be updated approximately every two weeks through early Spring, and more frequently if conditions change significantly. The next seven days look to be relatively dry, followed by a trend towards above average precipitation for the end of March into early April. The overall flood potential over the next two weeks is BELOW AVERAGE. 30-Day and 60-Day Precipitation Departures: Both 30-Day and 60-Day Precipitation Departures have been below to well average across Central Pennsylvania. The latest Snow Water Equivalent (SWE) map shows that, outside of the higher elevations of the Laurel Highlands, most of the lingering snow cover across Pennsylvania had melted as of March 21, 2025. Hydrologic Conditions and Impacts: Streamflows are generally running near average across northern and eastern Pennsylvania, and below to well below average across south-central and southwestern Pennsylvania. Soil Moisture Conditions: As of March 19, 2025, soil moisture conditions were below average across northern and western Pennsylvania and well below average across southeastern Pennsylvania. Seven Day Precipitation Forecast: The 7-Day precipitation forecast ranges from 0.10-0.25” across much of central Pennsylvania to 0.25-0.75” elsewhere across the commonwealth. 8-14 Day Temperature and Precipitation Outlooks: The 8-14 day forecast for the week of March 28-April 3, 2025 calls for a trend towards cooler than average temperatures and above average precipitation across Pennsylvania.
