Late September 2018 brings a couple of rounds of widespread rain. |

The first round of rain occurred Thursday night into early Friday (20-21 September) as a broad swath of moderate to heavy rain spread from west to east across West Texas. Many locations received an inch or more of rainfall, with 2 to 3 plus inches falling over portions of the southeast Texas Panhandle and Rolling Plains. The West Texas Mesonet sites at Caprock Canyons State Park (3.70") and Aspermont (3.76") recorded well over 3 inches, while many other spots had over two inches. |

Officially, the Lubbock Airport recorded 1.18 inches this event, the highest two-day total for the year to date. Childress officially received 0.91 inches this same period. |

After a few days of reprieve from the rain, another round of widespread rain overspread the South Plain region late Tuesday night (25 September) and continued through a good portion of Wednesday (26 September). The cool and wet conditions yielded widespread rain totals near and above an inch, with a few locations, including Caprock Canyons State Park and Turkey, recording over 2 inches. |

Officially, Lubbock measured 0.95 inches of rain September 26th while Childress recorded 1.70 inches. Although the late season rain wasn't welcome for everyone, it has helped to alleviate the longer term drought. |
