...SNOWFALL AND ICE ACCUMULATED ACROSS THE SOUTH PLAINS...

A STRONG WINTER STORM SYSTEM MOVED ACROSS WEST TEXAS ON THURSDAY
RESULTING IN MAINLY LIGHT ACCUMULATIONS OF SNOW AND HEAVY
ACCUMULATIONS OF ICE. THE STORM QUICKLY SPREAD FROM SOUTHERN NEW
MEXICO INTO WEST TEXAS DURING THE MORNING HOURS. THE PRECIPITATION
BEGAN AS RAIN SHOWER AS THE SYSTEM MOVED INTO THE AREA...THOUGH
SURFACE TEMPERATURES BEGAN TO FALL BELOW FREEZING SHORTLY AFTER
DAYBREAK RESULTING IN THE LIQUID FREEZING ON CONTACT WITH THE
GROUND AND TREES. FROM 10 AM TO 11 AM MOST OF THE PRECIPITATION IN
THE WEST HAD CHANGED OVER TO SLEET AND SNOW...THOUGH OFF THE
CAPROCK TEMPERATURES REMAINED SLIGHTLY ABOVE FREEZING. THE HEAVIEST
SNOWFALL OCCURRED FROM MORTON TO LUBBOCK NORTHWARD.
