1931: A tornado causing F2 damage in St. Louis county unroofed a small home and some barns along the Meramec River Bluffs.

1984: The highest temperature on record at St. Louis for the month of September (104 degrees) was recorded.

1918: The highest 24-hour total precipitation at Columbia occurs. There was 6.61 inches of rain.

Day3...

1994: In Franklin county, hail measuring up to 1.75 inches in diameter was produced by a severe thunderstorm.

2008: Remnants of Hurricane Gustav moved through the region generating rainfall amounts from 1 inch in the southeastern section of the county warning area to 7 inches in the western and southwestern portions of the county warning area. 1893: The highest temperature on record at Columbia for the month of September (104 degrees) was recorded.

1982: In Audrain county, winds of up to 70mph (61kts) were produced by a severe thunderstorm.

2008: Remnants of Tropical Depression Ike moved through the CWA  generating heavy rainfall. St. Louis, Columbia, and Quincy all saw roughly 4.5 inches of rain. The highest recorded amount was in Paris at 5.62 inches but Farminton only saw 1.21 inches of rainfall. More information can be found in our events archives.

1956: In St. Clair county, a severe thunderstorm produced a tornado that caused F2 damage.

1980: A severe thunderstorm dropped hail measuring up to 1.75 inches in diameter in Audrain county.

1905: The second highest 24-hour total precipitation at Columbia is recorded. There was a total of 6.13 inches of rain between the 16th and 17th.

1980: Severe thunderstorms moving through the area dropped hail measuring between 1.5 and 2.75 inches in parts of the CWA. The largest hail (measuring up to 2.75 inches in diameter) fell in Callaway county.

1980: In Columbia, baseball sized hail, 50mph winds, and a drop of 36 degrees in only 2 hours marked the passing of a cold front.

1975: Severe thunderstorms moving through the area dropped large hail in many counties. The largest hail was reported in Boone county and measured 1.75 inches in diameter.

Day19...

1924: A tornado causing F2 damage was produced by a severe thunderstorm in Iron county.

2002: St. Louis Police reported that high winds caused a tree to fall on a house in south St. Louis. About 3 blocks away, lightning struck a house and started a fire. Total damage was about $5000.

2005: Unseasonably warm temperatures aided in the development of severe storms that generated damaging winds, large hail, and a weak tornado. Most of the damage was along and north of Interstate 70. More information can be found in our events archives.

2001: Severe thunderstorms produced nickel-sized hail in Marion county in Missouri.

1931: A tornado passed through the southern half of Columbia damaging buildings on the MU campus. Luckily, only one student was injured.

Day22...

1985: In Callaway county, hail measuring up to 1.75 inches in diameter was produced by a severe thunderstorm.

2006: Waves of supercells moved east-northeast across the county warning area. Ten tornado tracks were uncovered and there were also many reports of large hail. The strongest tornado was a F4 just southeast of Perryville, Mo. More information can be found in our events archives.

1959: A severe thunderstorm produces hail that measures up to 2.75 inches in diameter in Crawford county. In Franklin county, hail stones with diameters between 2 and 2.5 inches were produced.

1942: The lowest temperatures on record at Quincy (26 degrees) and St. Louis (32 degrees) for the month of September were recorded.

1974: A severe thunderstorm produced winds of up to 69mph (60kts) in St. Louis county.

Day29...

1927: A tornado formed in Webster Groves and moved ENE across a corner of Forest Park into downtown St. Louis. In downtown St. Louis, the path widened from 100 to 600 yards, with microburst damage extending out over a mile wide. Over 200 city blocks were torn apart. This is the second costliest tornado in U.S. history ($1.7 billion realistic). 72 people were killed and 550 were injured.
