CHICAGO AND ROCKFORD...

AT CHICAGO...THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE FOR THE SUMMER SEASON WAS
87.0 DEGREES WHICH IS 5.1 DEGREES ABOVE THE 1981 TO 2010 AVERAGE OF
81.9 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 65.2 DEGREES WHICH IS
3.5 DEGREES ABOVE THE 1981 TO 2010 AVERAGE OF 61.7 DEGREES. THE MEAN
AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE SEASON WAS 76.1 DEGREES WHICH IS 4.3
DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL AVERAGE OF 71.8 DEGREES. THIS PUTS THE
SUMMER OF 2012 AS THE THIRD WARMEST SUMMER ON RECORD. THE SUMMER OF
1955 WAS THE WARMEST WITH A MEAN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 76.4
DEGREES...FOLLOWED BY THE SUMMER OF 1995 WITH A MEAN AVERAGE OF 76.3
DEGREES.

THE HIGH TEMPERATURE REACHED 90 DEGREES OR GREATER ON 40 DAYS
DURING THE PERIOD.

A TOTAL OF 6.63 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION WAS RECORDED DURING THIS
PAST SUMMER...WHICH IS 5.42 INCHES BELOW NORMAL. THIS RANKS AS
BEING THE 13TH DRIEST SUMMER ON RECORD IN CHICAGO DATING BACK TO
1871. OVER HALF OF THIS 6.63 INCHES...OR 3.66 INCHES...WAS
RECORDED DURING THE MONTH OF JULY.

A TOTAL OF 6 RECORDS WERE BROKEN OR TIED DURING THE MONTHS OF
METEOROLOGICAL SUMMER 2012 AT CHICAGO.

JUNE...JUNE 2012 WAS THE 5TH DRIEST JUNE ON RECORD WITH 0.90 INCHES
OF RAINFALL...JUNE 1922 WAS THE DRIEST WITH 0.12 INCHES. ALSO JUNE
HAD THE 6TH HIGHEST MONTHLY AVERAGE WITH 74.0 DEGREES...1933 HAD THE
HIGHEST AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 76.2 DEGREES.

ONE RECORD WAS SET AT CHICAGO IN JUNE. IT WAS ON JUNE 19TH WHEN THE
LOW TEMPERATURE ONLY DROPPED TO 78 DEGREES. THIS BROKE THE RECORD
FOR HIGHEST MINIMUM TEMPERATURE FOR THAT DATE WHICH HAD PREVIOUSLY

JULY...JULY 2012 HAD THE 3RD WARMEST MONTHLY AVERAGE ON RECORD WITH
THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 81.1 DEGREES...JULY 1955 HAD THE HIGHEST
AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WITH 81.3 DEGREES.

FIVE RECORDS TIED OR SET AT CHICAGO IN JULY.

THE FIRST RECORD WAS ON JULY 4TH WHEN THE TEMPERATURE REACHED 102
DEGREES WHICH TIED THE RECORD OF 102 DEGREES SET IN 1911. THIS ALSO
TIED IT FOR THE WARMEST JULY 4TH ON RECORD.

THE SECOND RECORD WAS ON JULY 5TH WHEN THE TEMPERATURE REACHED 103
DEGREES WHICH BROKE THE OLD RECORD OF 102 DEGREES SET IN 1911.

THE THIRD RECORD WAS BROKEN ON JULY 6TH WHEN THE HIGH TEMPERATURE
REACHED 103 DEGREES WHICH BROKE THE OLD RECORD OF 99 SET BACK IN
1874 AND TIED IN 1988.

THE FOURTH RECORD WAS ALSO SET ON JULY 6TH WHEN THE HIGHEST MINIMUM
TEMPERATURE WAS BROKEN BY ONLY FALLING TO 82 DEGREES WHICH BROKE THE
OLD RECORD OF 80 DEGREES SET IN 1977.

THE FIFTH RECORD SET WAS ON JULY 23RD FOR THE HIGHEST MINIMUM
TEMPERATURE WHEN THE LOW FOR THE DAY ONLY DROPPED TO 81
DEGREES...WHICH BROKE THE OLD RECORD OF 78 SET IN 1965.

AUGUST...THERE WERE NO RECORDS TIED OR SET AT CHICAGO IN AUGUST. IN
FACT...AUGUST 2012 WAS NEAR NORMAL FOR THE MONTHLY AVERAGE
TEMPERATURE.

AT ROCKFORD...THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE FOR THE SUMMER SEASON WAS
87.5 DEGREES WHICH IS 4.8 DEGREES ABOVE THE 1981 TO 2010 AVERAGE OF
82.7 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 62.8 DEGREES WHICH IS
1.8 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL THE 1981 TO 2010 AVERAGE OF 61.0 DEGREES.
THE MEAN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE SEASON WAS 75.2 DEGREES WHICH
IS 3.4 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL MEAN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 71.8
DEGREES. THIS TIES THE SUMMER OF 2012 WITH THE SUMMER OF 1983. THE
SUMMER OF 1921 HAS THE HIGHEST MEAN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WITH 76.1
DEGREES.

THE HIGH TEMPERATURE REACHED 90 DEGREES OR GREATER ON 41 DAYS
DURING THE PERIOD.

A TOTAL OF 5.72 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION WAS RECORDED DURING THIS
PAST SUMMER...WHICH WAS 7.47 INCHES BELOW THE SEASONAL NORMAL. THIS
PLACED THE SUMMER OF 2012 IN ROCKFORD AS THE 4TH DRIEST SUMMER ON
RECORD. THE DRIEST SUMMER WAS 1927 WITH A TOTAL OF 3.82 INCHES.

A TOTAL OF 11 RECORDS WERE BROKEN DURING THE METEOROLOGICAL MONTHS
OF SUMMER 2012 AT ROCKFORD.

OF RAINFALL...JUNE 1922 WAS THE DRIEST WITH 0.34 INCHES. ALSO JUNE
HAD THE 10TH HIGHEST MONTHLY AVERAGE WITH 72.9 DEGREES...1933 HAD
THE HIGHEST AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 77.5 DEGREES.

TWO RECORDS WERE SET OR TIED AT ROCKFORD IN JUNE.

THE FIRST WAS ON JUNE 19TH WHEN THE LOW TEMPERATURE ONLY DROPPED TO
76 DEGREES. THIS BROKE THE RECORD FOR HIGHEST MINIMUM TEMPERATURE

THE SECOND RECORD WAS ON JUNE 20TH WHEN THE LOW TEMPERATURE DROPPED
TO 73 DEGREES. THIS TIED THE RECORD FOR HIGHEST MINIMUM TEMPERATURE
FOR THAT DATE...WHICH WAS SET IN 1988 AND TIED IN 1997.

JULY...

NINE RECORDS WERE TIED OR SET AT ROCKFORD IN JULY.

THE FIRST RECORD IS THAT JULY 2012 IS THE WARMEST JULY ON RECORD
WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 80.8 DEGREES. THE PREVIOUS WARMEST
WAS JULY 1921 WITH 80.3 DEGREES.

THE SECOND RECORD WAS ON JULY 3RD WHEN THE MINIMUM TEMPERATURE ONLY
DROPPED TO 75 DEGREES. THE PREVIOUS RECORD HIGH MINIMUM TEMPERATURE
HAD BEEN 74 SET IN 1911.

THE THIRD RECORD WAS BROKEN ON JULY 4TH WHEN THE HIGH TEMPERATURE
REACHED 102 DEGREES. THE PREVIOUS HIGH TEMPERATURE HAD BEEN 101
DEGREES SET IN 1911. ALSO...THIS MADE IT THE WARMEST JULY 4TH ON
RECORD.

THE FOURTH RECORD WAS ON JULY 5TH WHEN THE HIGH TEMPERATURE REACHED
102 DEGREES. THE PREVIOUS RECORD WAS 100 DEGREES SET IN 1911.

THE FIFTH RECORD WAS ON JULY 6TH WHEN THE HIGH TEMPERATURE CLIMBED
TO 104 DEGREES. THE PREVIOUS RECORD WAS 102 DEGREES SET BACK IN 1911
AND TIED IN 1936.

THE SIXTH RECORD WAS ALSO BROKEN ON JULY 6TH WHEN THE LOW
TEMPERATURE ONLY DROPPED TO 77 DEGREES. THE PREVIOUS RECORD FOR
HIGHEST MINIMUM TEMPERATURE WHICH WAS 73 DEGREES SET IN 1948.

THE SEVENTH RECORD WAS ON JULY 7TH WHEN THE HIGH TEMPERATURE REACHED
105 DEGREES, WHICH TIED THE PREVIOUS RECORD SET IN 1936.

THE EIGHTH RECORD WAS SET ON JULY 18TH WHEN THE HIGH TEMPERATURE
REACHED 99 DEGREES. THE PREVIOUS RECORD WAS 98 DEGREES SET BACK IN
1930 AND TIED IN 1935 AND AGAIN IN 1966.

THE NINTH RECORD WAS ON JULY 23RD WHEN THE LOW TEMPERATURE ONLY
DROPPED TO 76 DEGREES...WHICH TIED THE PREVIOUS RECORD SET IN 1965.
