THIS REPORT COVERS THE PERIOD OCT 08-10 2004 WHEN TROPICAL STORM 
MATTHEW WAS APPROACHING AND LANDFALLING ON THE SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA 
COAST IN LOWER TERREBONNE PARISH ON OCT 10TH. THE DATA IN THIS 
REPORT ARE PRELIMINARY AND WILL BE UPDATED AS NEW INFORMATION 
BECOMES AVAILABLE.

NO SIGNIFICANT EROSION.  

F. FLOODING OR FLASH FLOODING

STORM SURGE FLOODING...
ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES PRECEDED LANDFALL AS EARLY AS 10/08/2004. 
COASTAL FLOODING WAS NOTED AROUND THE SHORES OF LAKE PONTCHARTRAIN 
AND MAUREPAS AND IN MOST COASTAL AREAS OUTSIDE OF THE HURRICANE 
PROTECTION LEVEES. MANY ROADS WERE CLOSED DUE TO STORM TIDE FLOODING 
IN THE LOWER TERREBONNE...LAFOURCHE...ST BERNARD...EXTREME EASTERN 
ORLEANS PARISH...AND SEVERAL ROADS NEAR LAKE PONTCHARTRAIN IN ST 
TAMMANY IN SLIDELL AND MANDEVILLE AND ST JOHN THE BAPTIST NEAR 
LAPLACE.  

FRESHWATER FLOODING...
SOME FRESHWATER FLOODING WAS NOTED IN PORTIONS OF LAFOURCHE AND 
TERREBONNE PARISHES FROM HEAVY RAIN.

RIVER FLOODING...

FRENCH SETTLEMENT   LIVINGSTON PARISH LA

G. TORNADOES
A BRIEF TORNADO TOUCHDOWN WAS SIGHTED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT ON 
10/10/2004 0949 UTC NEAR GOLDEN MEADOW. ONE TRAILER HAD HALF THE 
ROOF TORN OFF. 

H. STORM EFFECTS
IN TERREBONNE PARISH...ESTIMATED 20 HOMES FLOODED DUE TO COMBINATION 
OF HEAVY RAINS AND STORM SURGE WITHIN THE AREAS OF CHAUVIN 
...DULAC...MONTEGUT AND POINTE AUX CHENE. 
IN LAFOUCHE PARISH...SEVERAL HOMES WERE FLOODED OUTSIDE THE FLOOD 
GATES. TWO HOMES HAD BETWEEN 2 TO 2.5 FEET OF SURGE FLOODING. WITHIN 
THE FLOOD GATES SEVERAL HOMES IN THE GOLDEN MEADOW...GALLIANO AND 
CUTOFF AREA HAD ABOUT 6 INCHES OF FRESHWATER FLOODING DUE TO HEAVY 
RAINS. 

NO KNOWN DEATHS OR INJURIES
