000 NWUS54 KLIX 140010 LSRLIX PRELIMINARY LOCAL STORM REPORT...CORRECTED...UPDATED NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW ORLEANS LA 610 PM CST TUE FEB 13 2007 / 432 PM CST THU FEB 15 2007 ..TIME... ...EVENT... ...CITY LOCATION... ...LAT.LON... ..DATE... ....MAG.... ..COUNTY LOCATION..ST.. ...SOURCE.... ..REMARKS.. 0255 AM TORNADO WESTWEGO 29.90N 90.14W 02/13/2007 F2 JEFFERSON LA NWS STORM SURVEY *** 9 INJ *** PRELIMINARY ASSESSMENT OF THE GROUND SURVEY OF TORNADO DAMAGE IN THE WESTWEGO AREA INDICATED A PATH LENGTH OF AROUND 2 MILES AND DAMAGE WIDTH AVERAGING 50 YARDS. THE TORNADO TRAVELED ON A NORTH NORTHEAST TRACK ACROSS WESTWEGO BEFORE CONTINUING INTO THE CITY OF NEW ORLEANS. THE MOST SIGNFICANT DAMAGE OCCURRED IN THE VICINITY OF US HIGHWAY 90 AND AVENUE D WHERE A TWO STORY MOTEL HAD ITS ROOF TORN OFF AND PORTIONS OF SECOND FLOOR WALLS COLLAPSED. SEVERAL HOUSES LOST ROOFS. 0305 AM TORNADO NEW ORLEANS 29.97N 90.08W 02/13/2007 F2 ORLEANS LA NWS STORM SURVEY THE TORNADO THAT MOVED FROM WESTWEGO INTO THE UPTOWN AND CARROLLTON AREA OF NEW ORLEANS HAS BEEN UPGRADED TO A EF2 RATING BASED ON ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT OF THE STRUCTURAL DAMAGE. IN ADDITION THE TORNADO APPEARS TO HAVE BECOME INTERMITTENT BUT STILL IN CONTACT WITH THE GROUND IN A COUPLE OF LOCATIONS AS IT MOVED TOWARD MID CITY. THEREFORE THE PATH LENGTH IN NEW OLREANS HAS BEEN INCREASED TO 4.5 MILES. DAMAGE WIDTH IS APPROXIMATELY 50 YARDS. 0310 AM TORNADO 2 SW LAKEFRONT AIRPORT 30.02N 90.05W 02/13/2007 F2 ORLEANS LA NWS STORM SURVEY *** 1 FATAL, 25 INJ *** PRELIMINARY ASSESMENT FROM THE GROUND SURVEY INDICATED A TORNADO TOUCHED NEAR FRANKLIN AVE AND MENDEZ AND MOVED NORTHEAST ACROSS PONTCHARTRAIN PARK TO THE INDUSTRIAL CANAL. MOST OF THE DAMAGE WAS TO TREES AND POWER LINES HOWEVER SEVERAL HOUSES WERE HEAVILY DAMAGED WITH ROOFS TORN OFF AND UPPER FLOORS PARTIALLY COLLAPSED. DAMAGE PATH APPRROXIMATELY 1.5 MILES. DAMAGE WIDTH 50 YARDS. ADDITIONAL DATA MAY ALLOW THIS EVENT TO BE LINKED WITH THE UPTOWN TORNADO. INJURIES NOTED WERE FOR THE ENTIRE CITY. && $$
