Severe Thunderstorm Threat From the Central Plains to the Northeast; Extreme HeatRisk for the East Coast

Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible from the central Plains to the Northeast through this evening. Widespread damaging winds are the primary threat but hail and a tornado or two is also possible. Severe Weather Event of December 16, 2019

 

A strong upper level disturbance and surface low produced several severe thunderstorms across Southwest Mississippi and portions of Southeast Louisiana to the north of I-12 during the afternoon hours of Monday December 16, 2019. There were two tornadoes reported with these severe thunderstorms as they moved across the area. The most significant tornado impacted Amite County, Mississippi.

2 tornadoes have been confirmed from this event. These tornadoes have been determined to range in strength from EF1 to EF3 after NWS storm surveys were conducted.
