...A ROUND OF WET SNOW AFFECTS THE SOUTH PLAINS REGION...

AN UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM BROUGHT SNOW FOR SUPERBOWL SUNDAY.
ALTHOUGH TEMPERATURES REMAINED VERY NEAR OR JUST ABOVE THE FREEZING
MARK TODAY...THEY WERE JUST COLD ENOUGH TO SUPPORT A WET SNOW FOR
MUCH OF THE REGION. THE SNOW DID OCCASIONALLY MIX WITH OR CHANGE
TO RAIN IN SOME LOCATIONS WHEN THE HEAVIER PRECIPITATION
WANED...BUT MOST OF THE SOUTH PLAINS...SOUTHERN TEXAS PANHANDLE
AND ROLLING PLAINS EXPERIENCED PERIODS OF SNOW THROUGH MUCH OF THE
DAY TODAY. FOR THE MOST PART...THE RELATIVELY MILD TEMPERATURES
KEPT ROADWAYS WET AND THE SNOW DID NOT CREATE SIGNIFICANT TRAVEL
TROUBLES. IN ADDITION...THE SNOW BROUGHT BENEFICIAL MOISTURE TO
THE REGION...WITH BETWEEN A TENTH AND A HALF INCH OF LIQUID WATER
EQUIVALENT PICKED UP AT MOST LOCATIONS.

HOWEVER...EXACT SNOW TOTALS WERE DIFFICULT TO MEASURE AS MUCH OF
THE SNOW MELTED AS IT HIT THE GROUND...THANKS TO TEMPERATURES AT
GROUND LEVEL NEAR OR SLIGHTLY ABOVE THE FREEZING MARK THROUGH
MUCH OF THE DAY.
