Severe Thunderstorms and Excessive Rainfall over the Southern U.S.; Pacific Storm to Impact Hawaii

A storm system will produce severe thunderstorms over and near Louisiana, and heavy to excessive rainfall from the Southern Plains through the Ohio River Valley today. A strong weather system will bring the potential for flash flooding, severe thunderstorms, strong to locally damaging non-thunderstorm winds, and high elevation snow to the Hawaiian Islands through Friday. Southerly winds are forecast to be gusty late Thursday and Friday as a front approaches the area. Wind gusts of 30-45 mph are possible along coastal headlands and ridges.
Rain returns to the area late Thursday into the weekend (and likely early next week). This system will bring around 2-4 inches of rain to the area, with locally higher amounts in the high terrain.
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Northern Trinity County early Friday morning through early Friday afternoon. Total accumulations between 5 and 8 inches are possible on portions of Highway 3, with up to 1 foot possible at Scott Mountain Pass. An inch or two of wet snow may reach Weaverville early Friday morning. Snow levels will quickly rise on Friday, turning precipitation over to moderate rainfall through Saturday.
A Wind Advisory is in effect for late Thursday night into Friday morning across interior Humboldt and Del Norte Counties. Southeast winds 25 to 35 mph expected with gusts up to 50 mph possible along exposed ridges and coastal headlands, including southern Humboldt County around Cape Mendocino.
