1 ESE Bessemer - 2 SSE Ross Bridge The tornado first touched down on Dusty Lane, causing damage mainly to weakened or shallow rooted trees. The tornado crossed Morgan Road and continued east across an inaccessible forested area, crossing Shades Creek and then passing just behind The Oaks on Parkwood Blvd. Scores of trees were either uprooted or snapped in the area, and minor structural damage was noted at The Oaks. The tornado continued eastward and reached its peak intensity as it crossed Parkwood Road just west of Alabama Highway 150, with a dozen or so very large hardwoods uprooted, causing damage to homes and vehicles. The tornado was also estimated to be at its maximum width of about 350 yards in this area as it crossed AL 150. The tornado narrowed and weakened as it crossed another area of forested land, before snapping an older tree along Ross Bridge Parkway just west of Deer Valley Elementary School, then skirted the north end of the campus before ascending Shades Crest Mountain, then rapidly dissipating as it crossed Shades Crest Road. Several pine trees were uprooted or leaning on both sides of CR 92. A hardwood tree was uprooted along CR 176 where the tornado dissipated. 2 SE Eva - 2 ESE Eva NWS Huntsville and Morgan County EMA storm survey determined damage near Eva, or near the Cullman County and Morgan County line, was consistent with a strong EF-0 tornado with winds of 84 mph. The tornado itself appeared to have a very small vortex in the magnitude of approximately 30 to 50 yards. The tornado appeared to touch down on the Cullman County side where it caused tree damage in the form of large branches being knocked down. The maximum sustained damage was noted on the Morgan County side, on Pentecost Rd. where the tornado destroyed a small storage structure built from cinder blocks. This small structure appeared to be unanchored and not reinforced which led to the collapse of the walls and the roof. Video evidence from this location also saw vehicles being lifted up and sat down and a boat being lifted up and pushed about 3 ft from its location. 2 NE Sardis - 5 WNW West Point NWS Huntsville storm survey concluded that the damage in northwestern Cullman County was consistent with an EF-1 tornado with winds of 87 mph. It appeared at the tornado touched down near CR 1069 where it caused minor damage to a farm building and knocked down several small to large tree branches. Damage was noted far off on a path between CR 1069 and CR 1059. At CR 1059 several trees were either snapped or uprooted. The most intense damage was noted with two small farm structures that were destroyed and a single-wide mobile home that was knocked off its piers but remained upright. The mobile home remained attached to its straps and the straps to I-beams. However one I-beam and one strap were dislodged on the front end of the mobile home. The tornado continued between CR 1059 and CR 1082 near the CR 1083 intersection where some more large trees were uprooted. 1 NNE Winston Free State Barn - 2 NE Houston Recreational Area The tornado developed near a mobile home manufacturing facility where it peeled portions of sheet metal from the roof of the building, removed some skirting from a modular building and blew out two windows on a vehicle. The tornado then crossed Highway 33 where it remained just north of County Road 24 and remaining to the north of the Winston County School complex and transportation lot. The tornado continued east through wooded, uninhabited and inaccessible area. The tornado was found to have dissipated before reaching County Road 2 where there was no observable damage. 2 SE Ashridge - 2 NNE Moreland The tornado developed in a wooded, uninhabited area east of County Road 195 and moved northeast, crossing County Road 6 near Sandy Creek where it caused minor timber damage. The tornado caused minor damage to the roof of a chicken house just off of County Road 415. The tornado continued northeast where it approached Highway 33 west of Moreland. The tornado caused notable timber damage as it crossed Highway 33 then it continues northeast. The tornado moved across County Road 3163 where it removed sheathing from under a manufactured home, destroyed a small outbuilding, and removed portions of siding and sheathing from a manufactured home. The tornado then crossed County Road 63 or Cheatam Road where it removed a portion of the roof from a manufactured home, damaged two garage doors, and blew out a window of a outdoor storage building. A small portion of this structure suffered some minor exterior wall relocation from the slab but it was found that the wall was anchored by nailing to the concrete slab. Mesonet cameras including one from the University of Alabama in Hunstville at the Severe Weather Institute, Radar and Lightning Laboratories (SWIRLL) captured the event. No damages were reported. 0.6 SSW - 0.6 S Whiteside A well photographed and reported waterspout developed around 1800 LST and lasted several minutes. The waterspout appeared as a narrow elephant trunk tube in numerous photos and videos sent into social media or directly to the National Weather Service in Huntsville. From the videos and photos received, the waterspout became a landspout tornado at times on the eastern shore of Lake Wheeler, just a few hundred yards south of the U.S. Highway 31 causeway. Due to reporting requirements, this will be logged as a tornado with an Unknown EF rating since no damage was reported. For purposes of this database, it will be an EF0. In this area, significant damage was noted to both softwood and hardwood trees with the trunks of many trees snapped. A couple of homes suffered significant damage due to the fallen trees. Another home on the western edge of the tornado path had roof damage to the north side of the structure. The tornado continued northeast and crossed Celeste Road, weakened and lifted just east of John Kelly Road. The peak damage was noted from Tumbleton to the mobile home, with winds estimated at 125 mph. The tornado continued northeast, damaging another single family home and outbuildings. 1 ENE Ozark - 1 NNE Balkum A long-track tornado touched down in Ozark, AL and produced EF-1 damage along most of its 25-mile long track, mostly in the form of snapped or uprooted trees. In Ozark, the tornado removed the brick facade from the side of a doctor s office on Community Drive and tore some siding off a business on James St. The tornado continued southeast out of Ozark and snapped some trees in a subdivision in the vicinity of County Routes 20 and 27 before turning more eastward and damaging trees all the day to the county line. The tornado crossed into Henry County and severely damaged several small barns, farm buildings and silos northwest of Newville, AL. Within Newville and along U.S. 431, the tornado produced some EF-0 damage to the roofs of several homes. The tornado then continued to damage trees until it lifted just east of CR 103. 5.3 NE - 5.9 ENE Andalusia A tornado touched down just to the northwest of County Road 70 and traveled approximately one and a quarter of a mile towards the southeast. The tornado rapidly intensified after touchdown and produced EF-2 damage. A stand of pine trees were snapped near the bases with no tree left undamaged. The tornado then widened and severely damaged a duplex, sweeping it from its foundation with portions of the debris lofted across C.R. 70 approximately 75 yards away. The duplex did not have proper anchoring to the slab. A nearby concrete block workshop was also destroyed with the roof removed and 26 foot high concrete block walls toppled. It continued to move toward the southeast across Hillcrest Road and Cottage Hill Road, and then finally lifted just before reaching Knollwood Drive. Mostly tree damage occurred with this tornado with numerous branches broken, with the most damage occurring from Hillcrest Road until the tornado lifted where several trees were snapped or uprooted. Some houses suffered structural damage that were impacted by falling limbs or trees, and many fences were brought down as well. The tornado moved northeast and caused extensive tree damage along County Road 2, where the tornado strengthened to a maximum intensity of 100 mph. The Mount Pleasant Freewill Baptist Church had a portion of its roof removed, and the adjacent fellowship hall was destroyed. A short distance to the northeast, the tornado dissipated near Hodgens Road. The tornado damage path was 2.42 miles long and was 350 yards wide at its widest point. 1 SE- 3 ESE Higdon The tornado touched down half a mile to the west of Shiloh Community Church, damaging a barn. The tornado moved eastward along County Road 814 approaching the community of Shiloh. The greatest structural damage occurred at the church, with large sections of roof being damaged, and the walkway covering being removed from the church. At this point the tornado was at its widest, at 154 yards. The tornado continued moving to the east toward the Alabama/Georgia state line. Along the remainder of the path, relatively minor damage occurred to several mobile homes, peeling back metal from the roofs, and snapping both hardwood and softwood trees. The tornado was EF-1 strength at it's highest intensity near Shiloh Community Church, with wind speeds of 95 mph. The tornado moved northeastward and crossed the Black Warrior River, uprooting and snapping hundreds of trees along its path. The tornado ended just before the Whiteoak Creek Branch of the Black Warrior River, just prior to the Jefferson County line. Here sporadic tree damage was noted with some large limbs snapped and trees uprooted along Highway 278. The tornado tracked northeast tracking along the ridgeline in northern Etowah County. Sporadic tree damage was noted along Cove Spring Road and Cove Road. The tornado began to strengthen as it moved northeast toward the southern portions of Boaz. Several homes were damaged in this area some from falling trees and others from direct tornado damage. At least one home near the intersection of Highway 179 and Glover Road sustained significant structural damage. A large industrial building in this area also sustained significant damage. At this point, the tornado reached its maximum intensity in Etowah County at 115 mph with a width of approximately 350 yards. The tornado continued to move northeast through Boaz with homes and structures damaged along Pleasant Hill Road and Highway 205. 2 ESE Ridgeville - 2 NE Keener The tornado first touched down near Oak Hill Cemetery on the north side of Attalla along Highway 11. Here, several large trees were uprooted. The tornado tracked northeast almost paralleling Highway 11. Many homes suffered extensive structural damage due to falling and snapped trees. Numerous power poles were also snapped along its track from Attalla into Reece City. The tornado widened and strengthened as it moved into Reece City with a wide swath of hardwood trees snapped and felled along both sides of Highway 11 near Bethany Baptist Church and Clifford Drive. Here, the tornado reached its maximum intensity of 115 mph. The tornado maintained intensity as it crossed Highway 211 and widened to its maximum width of 925 yards with damage as far east as Interstate 59 and Highway 11. A barn was also significantly damaged at this location. The tornado finally began to wind down as it tracked northeast with sporadic snapped and uprooted trees noted for the next couple of miles. Damage from this tornado mostly involved softwood trees that were snapped or uprooted in a northeasterly path crossing Miller Hollow Road a few times until the tornado approached Highway 77. Here, dozens of trees were snapped or uprooted, as well as minor structural damage to a farm building and a power substation north of Gray Creek Drive. The tornado crossed Highway 77 near Clear Creek and Little Sand Valley where further tree damage was observed. It then crossed US Highway 431 and tracked along the ridgetop along Simmons Lane where trees were snapped and uprooted. Farther northeast, a residence sustained minor roof and porch damage as the circulation center passed overhead, which was evident by convergent tree fall and tree debris on the property. The tornado continued northeast where additional tree damage was observed and then dissipated near Wesson Gap Road. 1 SSW Fairview - 1 E Rosa A tornado touched down near Moss Road and County Road 33. This location is in central Blount County in an open farm pasture. The tornado quickly intensified as it began to snap and uproot various trees near the farm, and also destroying a farm shed. Numerous trees were uprooted as the tornado began to cross Highway 33, before impacting two residences. It was here where the damage survey team found the most significant damage as one residence sustained moderate roof and siding damage, and another was completely swept off its foundation, moving nearly 60 ft to the north. Wind estimates at this location placed the tornado at EF-2, 115 mph. Dozens of trees were also snapped and uprooted on these properties as the tornado ran parallel to the highway in a northeasterly direction. Tracking northeast, the tornado crossed County Road 1 where another corridor of significant tree damage was observed. Just to the north, a shed was overturned and blown to the southeast. From here, the tornado continued northeast where structure damage was observed near Highway 33. Various farm buildings sustained significant damage and at least one residence sustained roof damage (winds estimated at 100 mph). Damage became more sporadic in nature and less severe northeast of this location, though another brief corridor of EF-1 damage was observed near the intersection of Shady Lane and US Highway 231, where numerous trees were snapped and uprooted. After crossing Highway 231, the tornado continued northeast and approached Palisades Park before dissipating along Ebell Road. After quickly intensifying to peak intensity of 95 mph, a broad corridor of trees were snapped and uprooted near three residences. No damage was observed at these locations outside of fallen limbs and debris. The tornado then tracked east with trees sporadically uprooted and snapped before it crossed a large wooded area just west of Highway 79. The tornado then briefly tracked near Highway 79 snapping and uprooting trees where some fell on at least two homes and one vehicle. Farther east, additional softwood trees were snapped and uprooted along Massey Road. Sporadic, and mostly minor, tree damage was also noted along Pine Bluff Road and Spunky Holly Road. The tornado began to weaken as it crossed Highway 15 with mainly large limbs snapped in this area. The eastern-most damage was noted along Hollingsworth Road before the tornado finally dissipated. The tornado formed near the intersection of Lake Road and Oak Grove Road just southwest of Troy Municipal Airport. Branches and a couple trees were downed along Oak Grove Road. The tornado continued east- northeastward, removing the roof from a barn and downing a couple more trees, before crossing the north-south runways at the airport. The tornado passed south of the terminal and very near the KTOI ASOS. Winds backed from 200 degrees to 170 degrees and then veered to 260 degrees while gusting to 47 mph. Minor damage may have occurred to the ASOS pending further assessment. The tornado downed a couple more trees before dissipating west of Highway 231. As the tornado entered Colbert County, dozens of trees were snapped or uprooted and a single-family home received minor roof damage. The tornado intensified to EF-1 strength where it knocked a manufactured home off it's foundation, and displaced a nearby vehicle. Nearby, extensive tree damage was observed with at least several dozen trees snapped or uprooted. The tornado generally continued on an eastward path where it continued to cause extensive tree damage, as well as damage to at least three homes along Maude Tower Rd and County Rd 29. 3 SSE Hackneyville - 3 NNW Hillabee Creek This tornado began northeast of Alexander City along Campground Road, where some tree damage was initially observed. The tornado moved eastward where it increased in intensity and width. The worst damage occurred along Town Creek Road where the road bends northward along Hillabee Creek. In that area, many trees of various sizes were snapped or uprooted. There were just a few structures within the path of the tornado. One home had minor shingle loss and failure of a window frame, along with damage to outbuildings. One home had damage to a window from flying debris. One home had a bit more in the way of shingle loss and shifting of the ridge vent, shifting of porch columns (likely due to uplift of the porch overhang), and a window blown out of a truck. Due to the number of fallen trees (the most notable damage indicator in this case), this tornado was assigned a low-end EF-1 intensity. 7 NNE Killen - 3 WNW Lexington An EF-1 tornado touched down west of Lauderdale County Road 25, in the Green Hill community, during the evening of February 12, 2020. Trees in a forested area west of CR 25 were snapped and uprooted. Structural damage occurred near the intersection of CR 25 and Turrentine Road, where part of the roof on a single-family home was removed, a cinderblock shed was demolished, and two smaller sheds were completely destroyed. The tornado continued northeast to the intersection of CR 363 and 144, where most of the trees surrounding a single-family home were snapped or uprooted. The tornado appeared to weaken somewhat as it continued northeast to the intersection of CR 33 and 39, where shingles were blown off several single-family homes and more trees were snapped or uprooted. Numerous trees were snapped and uprooted along CR 39, further northeast along CR 369, and again on CR 39 as that road turns to the north. 5 NW Pea Ridge - 4 NNW Alabaster The tornado touched down in a wooded area near Red Oak Rd and Hancock Creek and tracked northeast, moving across a largely uninhabited area along the Cahaba River. The tornado quickly intensified to EF-2 strength where it snapped or uprooted thousands of soft and hardwood trees just south and east of Shelby County Rd 1 in the Ward Creek area per aerial survey. Continuing northeast, the tornado crossed many bends along the Cahaba River before eventually weakening to EF-0 strength as it approached the Moss Bend area where timber damage was observed with trees snapped or uprooted. Further northeast, numerous trees were snapped or uprooted along a portion of Oak View Lane. The tornado continued northeast into the Old Cahaba neighborhood where several homes sustained minor roof and siding damage. The window to a home was also blown out along with additional damage to trees. The tornado continued northeast roughly paralleling Hillsboro Parkway where more trees were uprooted. 1.3 SSW Bakerhill - 4.7 ENE Bakerhill After reviewing the damage along with radar data, it was determined by NWS Meteorologist that the damage was the result of a tornado. The tornado touched down near Threatt Road (County Road 18) just southwest of Bakerhill. One tree was uprooted and a dead tree was snapped at starting point. The tornado progressed northeast over County Road 79 where several trees were snapped off or were uprooted. The tornado continued northeast where it crossed Highway 131. Here it tore tin sheathing, damaging an outbuilding and flipped over an outdoor basketball goal. It also snapped and uprooted many trees. The tornado then continued northeast and crossed Five Mile Road (County Road 36) where more trees were uprooted near and just north of Christian Grove Church. The tornado then lifted east of Five Mile Road over an open field. The end of the track was northeast of Bakerhill. Union Grove The tornado initially touchdown just south west of Brindlee Mountain Primary School. At this location, the school gymnasium, 10 classrooms, and the cafeteria were destroyed. Numerous beams in the roof of the gym were also twisted and bent, and large bolts used to attach it to the foundation were ripped from the structure. EF2 tornado damage was determined at this location, with wind speeds 120MPH. In addition to damage to the school, several trees were snapped or uprooted at this location near the ballfield. A set of bleachers was hurled over 150 yards from one side of the school to the other. Several dumpsters were displaced as well, along with three or four power poles snapped at their bases. This lead to additional damage at the school property when the poles fell on the school awning and roof. Little to no additional tornado damage was noted to the northeast of the school, aside from roofing materials strewn from the damage at the primary school itself. The tornado caused damage to structures in this location, with numerous trees down on or beside houses in this community. EF1 tornado damage was officially found in the city of Joppa, with wind speeds of 100 mph. Trees were snapped and uprooted along Highway 69, causing minor structural damage. The tornado continued rapidly moving north east, ending in Hog Jaw at a farm across from the Westside veterinary Hospital on Alabama Highway 69. Little to no damage was noted beyond this point to the north east, aside from tin that was strewn from the barn that it last came in contact with across from the veterinary hospital. Witnesses in the city of Joppa reported a rain wrapped tornado along the tornado's path, noting that damage ended almost as quickly as the heavy rain began and ended. Holly Pond A tornado touched down in the Holly Pond community near the center of town. The tornado caused minimal tree and roof damage as it quickly moved through the city. Minor roof damage was caused to the old WaterBrook restaurant, also blowing off siding at this location, and wrapping it around a cell phone tower northeast of the restaurant. From there, the tornado skipped northeast, causing minimal roof damage to the southwest corner of Holly Pond High School, where less than 20% of the roof was damaged, and portions of the awning were also damaged. As a result of the survey teams findings, EF0 tornado damage was determined at this location in Holly Pond, with damage associated with 80MPH winds. 2 E Pickensville - 7 SW Reform A tornado touched down south of Highway 86, and just on the south side of Coleman Road. This location is about 2 miles east of Pickensville. From there, the tornado moved north northeast, crossing Highway 86. Along Highway 86, there were at least 3 homes damaged with 1 losing most of its roofing. Numerous hardwood and softwood trees were snapped off or were uprooted at this location. The tornado continued north northeast across Turnipseed Road, causing significant tree damage. Next, the tornado moved along Settlement Road, nearly paralleling the road northward. At this point that the tornado was likely near its peak intensity. Numerous homes were damaged or destroyed on the west side of Settlement Road, while homes on the east side sustained generally minor damage. Of the homes destroyed, six were site-built homes. Four manufactured homes were completely destroyed, three of which had anchoring systems that failed. All four manufactured home frames were found considerable distances from the home sites. Three fatalities occurred in two of these manufactured homes on Settlement Road. In addition, all of the injuries were also on Settlement Road. The tornado continued through the forest and crossed Pine Grove Road near McDaniel Road. The farm at this location sustained significant damage with the home and at least two barns heavily damaged. Numerous hardwood and softwood trees were uprooted or snapped as well. From here, the tornado continued north northeastward and began to weaken. It crossed Pearson Road, uprooting several trees before dissipating north of Pearson Road and west of Phoenix Road. At least 22 homes suffered varying degrees of damage.
