Winter Weather Brings Dangerous Travel Conditions Across the Northern U.S.

Heavy lake effect snow will persist downwind of the Great Lakes through early Saturday. Snow squalls with heavy snow and gusty winds will create dangerous travel in the Interior Northeast due to low visibility and slippery roads. Snow is expected to begin by this afternoon for locales northwest of I-71 before overspreading a greater portion of the local area by this evening. A transition to a mix with rain, or all rain, is expected by this evening, especially for spots near/south of the I-70 corridor. Travel impacts are possible this evening into tonight, especially across east-central Indiana and west-central Ohio. Light mix/rain will may end as a period of brief snow Sunday morning.
This table shows forecast precipitation chances/types today through early Sunday. In areas where a mix of rain/snow is favored prior to the changeover to all rain, snow accumulations will be limited quite a bit. Changeovers to all rain will melt/compact new snow accumulations quickly.
Wind gusts around 35 MPH are likely this evening into the day Sunday. Winds will shift to southerly today to westerly on Sunday.
