Life-Threatening Flash Flooding in South Central Texas; Heat Continues from the Northern Plains to the Mid-Atlantic

Life-threatening and locally catastrophic flash and urban flooding is expected across portions of south-central Texas through early Friday, with significant river flooding and rapid rises on small streams, arroyos, and typically dry washes expected. It will be hot and humid for the next couple of days which will result in heat indices around 100. This could lead to heat exhaustion. The heat index will not be quite as high heading into the latter part of the week as clouds increase and the chance of showers and storms returns.
Wildfires to the northwest of Lake Superior have created a large plume of smoke that is bringing hazy skies to the region. However, the smoke is taking a rather circuitous route out over the Atlantic Ocean to get here, following winds aloft around a high pressure system.
