The National Weather Service in Wilmington, Ohio has confirmed an EFO tornado near Trenton and Hamilton in Butler County, Ohio. The tornado is believed to have first touched down in the vicinity of Chrisholm MetroPark in the Historical Farmstead Area north of Woodsdale Road. At the park, tree damage was observed within the northeast section of the park. The circulation likely crossed Woodsdale Road and the Great Miami River as it moved southeast, however, no damage was reported likely due to the weak nature of the tornado and lack of road access. The next evidence of the tornado was found south of the Great Miami River in a neighborhood west of the Wright Brothers Memorial Highway. Security camera video from a residence on Dedham Drive shows a circulation quickly moving through the area, tossing light debris. Small tree limbs were also reported down in the neighborhood. Given the lack of damage to surrounding structures, the tornado was likely very weak as it dissipated. In combination with other video evidence received and available radar data, confidence was high enough to confirm a tornado between these two locations. The National Weather Service would like to thank the Butler County EMA office and the MetroParks of Butler County for their assistance in this determination. EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0...Weak......65 to 85 mph EF1...Weak......86 to 110 mph EF2...Strong....111 to 135 mph EF3...Strong....136 to 165 mph EF4...Violent...166 to 200 mph EF5...Violent...>200 mph * The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$ McGinnis |
