Heat Continues for the East and South-Central U.S.; Strong to Severe Storms Across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast

The extremely dangerous heat wave continues across the East Coast and much of the South-Central U.S. today. Record high temperatures are expected for some areas especially across the Mid-Atlantic where extreme heat risk conditions reside. Freezing Rain/Ice
During the late evening hours on February 24th into the early morning hours on February 25th, a solid shield of precipitation moved through the region. With surface air temperatures still below freezing for many locations near/north of I-70, this precipitation fell as freezing rain, accreting on all surfaces, especially elevated ones such as trees and powerlines. Further south, it was just warm enough to be just plain rain.
