A brief tornado touchdown has been confirmed in northern Delaware County, Ohio, east of the city of Delaware. This tornado occurred during the late afternoon of September 7. The tornado is believed to have begun in a field just west of Jumper Road, with the first evidence of tornadic damage occurring along Jumper Road. Multiple trees or large limbs were knocked down, and partial uplift of a roof was observed on one of the homes. Shingles and other material were thrown both downwind and upwind from the home. To the southeast of Jumper Road, additional tree damage was noted along N Old State Road. The tornado likely crossed Alum Creek, producing additional tree damage along N 3 Bs and K Road before lifting. This tornado is rated EF0 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, with maximum winds of 80 mph. Other tree damage was observed within the city of Delaware, and also east of Interstate 71 in the Berkshire area eastward to Sunbury. This damage was consistent with straight line winds of 60 to 65 mph. Storm damage was also surveyed in the Marysville area of Union County east-southeast into the Lewis Center area of Delaware County. Much of the damage consisted of trees being knocked down or large limbs blown down. Sporadic structural damage was also noted. Damage within this area was straight line in nature, with instances of damage consistent with winds of 70 to 75 mph. The National Weather Service would like to thank the Delaware County Ohio Emergency Management Agency and Union County Ohio Emergency Management Agency, along with other public safety officials and eyewitnesses, for their assistance and support with these damage surveys.
