Heat Continues for the East and South-Central U.S.; Strong to Severe Storms Across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast

The extremely dangerous heat wave continues across the East Coast and much of the South-Central U.S. today. Record high temperatures are expected for some areas especially across the Mid-Atlantic where extreme heat risk conditions reside. A brief tornado touched down on the southwest side of Versailles, damaging homes, businesses and trees along its path. Ground and aerial photos confirmed a debris pattern and placement associated with a tornado. Damage further west between Versailles and Holton was more indicative of straight line wind damage. These findings were supported by assistance from Ripley County Emergency Management and Versailles Fire Department.
