THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WILMINGTON OH HAS CONFIRMED A MICROBURST /STRAIGHT LINE WIND DAMAGE/ NEAR CRIDERSVILLE IN AUGLAIZE COUNTY OHIO ON JULY 10 2013. THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CONDUCTED A DAMAGE SURVEY IN CRIDERSVILLE ON FRIDAY...JULY 12 2013. AT THE BEGINNING OF THE DAMAGE PATH......A CHURCH HAD 20 PERCENT OF THE ROOF COMPLETELY RIPPED OFF AND TOSSED 50 YARDS TO THE NORTHEAST AND THE CHURCH STEEPLE WAS KNOCKED DOWN TOWARD THE NORTHEAST. A 4 TO 5 FOOT DIAMETER TREE FELL ON A HOUSE AND A VERY WELL ANCHORED TRAMPOLINE WAS PULLED OUT OF THE GROUND AND BLEW THROUGH A FENCE LANDING IN THE YARD 2 HOUSES AWAY. IN THE MIDDLE PART OF THE TRACK...A ROOF OVER LUMBER AT A LUMBER YARD WAS COMPLETELY RIPPED OFF AND TOSSED TO THE NORTHEAST. TOWARD THE END OF THE TRACK...5 MOBILE HOMES WERE DAMAGED AND 3 OF THEM WERE SIGNIFICANTLY SHIFTED OFF THEIR FOUNDATIONS. THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE TRACK...OVER 30 HOUSES HAD A PORTION OF THEIR ROOFS TORN OFF AND 13 HOMES HAD MINOR ROOF DAMAGE AND BROKEN WINDOWS. THERE WERE ABOUT 30 HOUSES WITH SHINGLES OR SIDING TORN OFF AND AROUND 40 TREES HAD SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE. FOR REFERENCE... A MICROBURST IS A CONVECTIVE DOWNDRAFT WITH AN AFFECTED OUTFLOW AREA OF LESS THAN 2 1/2 MILES WIDE AND PEAK WINDS LASTING LESS THAN 5 MINUTES. MICROBURSTS MAY INDUCE DANGEROUS HORIZONTAL/VERTICAL WIND SHEARS...WHICH CAN ADVERSELY AFFECT AIRCRAFT PERFORMANCE AND CAUSE PROPERTY DAMAGE.
