Atmospheric River in the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies this Weekend

A Pacific storm and atmospheric river will impact the Pacific Northwest states and northern Rockies this weekend, bringing locally heavy low elevations rain and heavy high elevation snow in the mountains. Winter Storm

Precipitation overspread the region through the day on December 26th, 2012 as a low pressure system moved through the Tennessee Valley. To the northwest of Interstate 71, precipitation remained mainly snow through the event with snowfall amounts generally in the 6 to 10 inch range. Along and southeast of Interstate 71, sleet and freezing rain mixed with the snow, significantly reducing snowfall accumulations.
