THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WILMINGTON OH HAS CONFIRMED A
TORNADO NEAR CLARKSVILLE IN CLINTON COUNTY OHIO ON 03/23/12.

A VERY BRIEF AND WEAK TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN IN THE VILLAGE OF
CLARKSVILLE ON FRIDAY EVENING. A CONCENTRATED PATH OF MINOR DAMAGE
WAS FOUND TO BE CENTERED ON 2ND STREET IN THE VILLAGE. THE TORNADO
FIRST TOUCHED DOWN ON THE WEST SIDE OF HIGHWAY 132 IN THE
SOUTHERN PART OF CLARKSVILLE. THE TORNADO THEN MOVED ALONG 2ND
STREET WHERE NUMEROUS STRUCTURES RECEIVED VERY MINOR
DAMAGE...INCLUDING WINDOWS BROKEN...ROOFING MATERIAL LIFTED AND
STREWN DOWNSTREAM...TREES SNAPPED AND UPROOTED...AND FENCING AND
PLAY SETS BLOWN OVER. THE TALLER BUILDINGS IN THE CENTER OF
THE VILLAGE BORE THE BRUNT OF THE MINOR ROOF DAMAGE...AND MUCH OF
THE TREE DAMAGE WAS NEAR THE TOPS OF THE TREES...SUGGESTING THIS
TORNADO WAS ONLY WEAKLY IN CONTACT WITH THE GROUND. 

INFORMATION PASSED TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE VIA THE
CLARKSVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT INDICATED THAT SEVERAL EYEWITNESSES
OBSERVED A BRIEF FUNNEL TOUCH DOWN IN THE CITY BEFORE LIFTING AS
IT APPROACHED GEORGE ROAD. 

THERE WAS MINOR TREE DAMAGE ON GEORGE ROAD NOT BELIEVED TO BE
CAUSED BY THE TORNADO ITSELF...BUT BY SEVERE NON-TORNADIC WINDS
AFTER THE TORNADO HAD LIFTED.

FOR REFERENCE...THE ENHANCED FUJITA SCALE CLASSIFIES TORNADOES INTO
THE FOLLOWING CATEGORIES:

EF0...WIND SPEEDS 65 TO 85 MPH.
EF1...WIND SPEEDS 86 TO 110 MPH.
EF2...WIND SPEEDS 111 TO 135 MPH.
EF3...WIND SPEEDS 136 TO 165 MPH.
EF4...WIND SPEEDS 166 TO 200 MPH.
EF5...WIND SPEEDS GREATER THAN 200 MPH.
