THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WILMINGTON OH HAS CONFIRMED A
MICROBURST 7.5 MILES NW OF URBANA IN CHAMPAIGN COUNTY OHIO ON
AUGUST 7 2011.

A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE STORM SURVEY CONFIRMED A MICROBURST
CAUSED DAMAGE TO A MOBILE HOME AND NEARBY HOUSE NORTHWEST OF
URBANA. THE MOBILE HOME WAS TOTALLY DESTROYED AND DEBRIS WAS BLOWN
INTO THE SIDE OF THE NEARBY HOUSE. THIS DEBRIS DAMAGED THE HOUSE...
INCLUDING THE ROOF AND GARAGE. THE BACK SIDE OF THE GARAGE WAS
BLOWN OUT. IN ADDITION... ONE OR TWO TREES WERE SNAPPED OFF AND
THREE OR FOUR WERE BLOWN DOWN.

A MICROBURST IS A CONVECTIVE DOWNDRAFT WITH AN AFFECTED OUTFLOW AREA
OF LESS THAN 2 1/2 MILES WIDE AND PEAK WINDS LASTING LESS THAN
5 MINUTES. MICROBURSTS MAY INDUCE DANGEROUS HORIZONTAL/VERTICAL
WIND SHEARS...WHICH CAN ADVERSELY AFFECT AIRCRAFT PERFORMANCE AND
CAUSE PROPERTY DAMAGE. STRAIGHT-LINE WINDS ARE GENERALLY ANY WIND
THAT IS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH ROTATION...USED MAINLY TO DIFFERENTIATE
THEM FROM TORNADIC WINDS.
