THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WILMINGTON OH HAS CONFIRMED A
TORNADO IN RURAL PORTIONS OF PIKE COUNTY /ABOUT 12 MILES SOUTHWEST
OF PIKETON/ OHIO ON JUNE 27 2011.

A DAMAGE SURVEY IN PIKE COUNTY CONFIRMED A BRIEF TOUCHDOWN OF A
WEAK TORNADO ALONG LAUREL RIDGE ROAD IN PIKE COUNTY ON THE EVENING
OF JUNE 27TH 2011. DAMAGE ALONG THE PATH CONSISTED MAINLY OF TREES
BROKEN OFF AND UPROOTED. THERE WAS ALSO EVIDENCE OF BRANCHES AND
PORTIONS OF TREES BLOWN INWARD TOWARD THE CENTER OF THE DAMAGE
PATH...TYPICAL FOR TORNADO DEBRIS. THE DAMAGE IS CONSISTENT WITH WIND
SPEEDS APPROACHING 80 MPH ALONG THE ENTIRE PATH.

WHILE THERE WERE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF FUNNEL CLOUDS ACROSS PIKE
COUNTY ON THE EVENING OF JUNE 27TH...THERE WAS NO SUBSTANTIAL
DAMAGE FOUND TO CONFIRM ANY ADDITIONAL TOUCHDOWNS. 

FOR REFERENCE...THE ENHANCED FUJITA SCALE CLASSIFIES TORNADOES INTO
THE FOLLOWING CATEGORIES:

EF0...WIND SPEEDS 65 TO 85 MPH.
EF1...WIND SPEEDS 86 TO 110 MPH.
EF2...WIND SPEEDS 111 TO 135 MPH.
EF3...WIND SPEEDS 136 TO 165 MPH.
EF4...WIND SPEEDS 166 TO 200 MPH.
EF5...WIND SPEEDS GREATER THAN 200 MPH.
