Straight-Line Winds In Union and Preble Counties

...DAMAGE IN UNION/PREBLE COUNTIES FROM STRAIGHT LINE WINDS...

A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE STORM SURVEY HAS CONCLUDED THAT DAMAGE
IN UNION COUNTY INDIANA...INTO PREBLE COUNTY OHIO...WAS FROM
STRAIGHT LINE WINDS AND NOT A TORNADO. 

DAMAGE INVESTIGATED INCLUDED AREAS ALONG STATE ROUTE 44 AND NINE
MILE ROAD IN UNION COUNTY INDIANA...AND ALONG STATE LINE ROAD ON
THE UNION/PREBLE COUNTY LINE INTO EXTREME WESTERN PREBLE COUNTY.

DAMAGE IN THESE AREAS INCLUDED LARGE TREES BLOWN DOWN...ONE THAT
WAS LYING ON A HOUSE ON STATE ROUTE 44 EAST OF LIBERTY INDIANA.
ALONG NINE MILE ROAD...SHEDS WERE TIPPED OVER AND DAMAGED...AND A
ROOF WAS PEELED FROM A GARAGE.

ON STATE LINE ROAD...A BARN ROOF WAS PEELED OFF WITH DEBRIS STREWN
FOR AT LEAST A HALF MILE. ALSO ON STATE LINE ROAD...TREES WERE
DOWNED...AND A LARGE GRAIN SILO WAS DENTED IN...WITH METAL TORN
OFF AND THROWN IN EXCESS OF A QUARTER MILE. A HEAVY WAGON WAS
ROLLED IN EXCESS OF 100 FEET. 

ALL OF THE DEBRIS WAS STREWN TO THE NORTHEAST FROM ALL DAMAGE SITES.

WINDS WERE ESTIMATED TO BE IN EXCESS OF 80 MPH IN THESE
AREAS...AND MAY HAVE APPROACHED 100 MPH FOR A BRIEF PERIOD.
