Straight-Line Winds & Tornado Confirmed In Switzerland County, IN

...NWS METEOROLOGISTS HAVE SURVEYED STORM DAMAGE IN SWITZERLAND
COUNTY INDIANA...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE IN WILMINGTON OH HAS CONDUCTED A
STORM SURVEY IN EASTERN SWITZERLAND COUNTY INDIANA. THE SURVEY IS
IN RELATION TO THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS THAT MOVED THROUGH THE AREA
ON APRIL 19-20TH 2011.

TWO PARALLEL PATHS OF DAMAGE WERE FOUND. EACH PATH WAS ABOUT 200
FEET WIDE.

THE SOUTHERN PATH HAD A LENGTH OF THREE QUARTERS OF A MILE...
EXTENDING NORTHEAST FROM BRYANTS CREEK RD. THIS SOUTHERN PATH WAS
DETERMINED TO BE CAUSED BY STRAIGHT LINE WINDS OF APPROXIMATELY 80
MPH.

THE NORTHERN PATH HAD A LENGTH OF APPROXIMATELY TWO MILES. THIS PATH
CLOSELY FOLLOWED SR 250 FROM ANTIOCH RD. NORTHEAST ACROSS DEVERS RD.
AND TOWARD N. BRANCH RD. THIS DAMAGE WAS DETERMINED TO BE CAUSED BY
A TORNADO OF EF1 STRENGTH ON THE ENHANCED FUJITA SCALE. ADDITIONAL
STRAIGHT LINE WIND DAMAGE WAS FOUND ADJACENT TO THE TORNADO PATH.

THIS INFORMATION IS PRELIMINARY. A FINAL ASSESSMENT INCLUDING
RESULTS OF THE SURVEY ARE EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED AND TRANSMITTED
VIA A PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT ON THURSDAY.
