THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WILMINGTON OH HAS CONFIRMED A TORNADO NEAR HEATH IN LICKING COUNTY OHIO ON APRIL 20 2011. A BROKEN DAMAGE PATH WAS OBSERVED FROM JUST WEST OF HEATH NEAR THE NEWARK-HEATH AIRPORT TO STATE ROUTE 13 EAST OF HEATH. TREES 1 TO 2 FEET IN DIAMETER WERE SNAPPED OFF BETWEEN 2 AND 15 FEET ABOVE GROUND LEVEL JUST WEST OF THE AIRPORT. A 102 MPH GUST WAS RECORDED BY THE ASOS AT THE AIRPORT AS THE CIRCULATION PASSED. A WALMART STORE JUST EAST-NORTHEAST OF THE AIRPORT HAD A SECTION OF THE SIGN ON THE FRONT OF THE STORE REMOVED. THIS SECTION MEASURED ROUGHLY 15 FEET WIDE BY 20 FEET TALL AND FACED AWAY FROM THE INCOMING STORM. A SMALL RENTAL CAR COMPANY BUILDING ON ROUTE 79 BETWEEN IRVING WICK DRIVE AND HOPEWELL DRIVE HAD ITS METAL ROOF PARTIALLY PEELED AWAY. A MASONRY BUILDING ON SOUTH 22ND STREET WAS DAMAGED SUBSTANTIALLY WITH ONE WALL COMPLETELY COLLAPSED ALONG WITH HALF OF ANOTHER. THE MASONRY BLOCKS WERE STREWN 50 TO 100 FEET FROM THE BUILDING TO THE EAST. SEVERAL LARGE TREES WITH DIAMETERS OF 1 TO 2 FEET WERE UPROOTED OR SNAPPED ON HOPEWELL DRIVE EAST OF STATE ROUTE 79 AND ALONG STATE ROUTE 13 SOUTH OF HOPEWELL DRIVE. THE ROOT STRUCTURE OF THE TREES ALONG STATE ROUTE 13 PULLED UP A LARGE AMOUNT OF ROCK IN WHICH THEY WERE PREVIOUSLY EMBEDDED. THIS INFORMATION CAN ALSO BE FOUND ON OUR WEBSITE AT WEATHER.GOV/ILN.
