A DAMAGE SURVEY BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WILMINGTON HAS CONFIRMED A TORNADO BEGINNING IN PREBLE COUNTY AT APPROXIMATELY 1140 AM AND ENDING IN DARKE COUNTY AT APPROXIMATELY 1148 AM. THE TORNADO LIKELY TOUCHED DOWN INITIALLY IN OPEN FARM LAND NORTH OF ELDORADAO-WHITEWATER ROAD /HIGHWAY 33/. IN THIS AREA...SOME FARM FENCES CAKED WITH CORN DEBRIS AND MINOR TREE DAMAGE WERE FOUND. THE TORNADO LIKELY LIFTED FOR A BIT AND THEN TOUCHED DOWN WEST OF HIGHWAY 726 AND DEMOLISHED A BARN ALONG HIGHWAY 726. THE TORNADO CONTINUED ACROSS HIGHWAY 726 WHERE IT HIT A RESIDENCE ON PREBLE COUNTY-BUTLER TOWNSHIP ROAD /HIGHWAY 78/ WHERE OUTBUILDINGS WERE DESTROYED WITH DEBRIS STREWN APPROXIMATELY 300 YARDS AND SIGNIFICANT TREE DAMAGE OCCURRED. THE TORNADO CONTINUED ACROSS FARM FIELDS UNTIL GLANCING ANOTHER RESIDENCE ALONG HIGHWAY 722 WHERE TREE DAMAGE AND MINOR OUTBUILDING DAMAGE OCCURRED. SEVERAL UTILITY POLES ALONG HIGHWAY 722 WERE SNAPPED IN HALF. THE TORNADO THEN CONTINUED NORTHEAST AND SQUARELY HIT A RESIDENCE ON EMRICK ROAD WHERE THE MOST SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE OCCURRED INCLUDING WINDOWS BROKEN IN THE HOUSE...SIGNIFICANT OUTBUILDING DAMAGE...AND SEVERAL LARGE AND HEALTHY TREES SNAPPED OFF AND UPROOTED. MORE DAMAGE WAS FOUND TO A RESIDENCE ON TOWNSHIP HIGHWAY 48 /ITHACA- OTTERBEIN ROAD/ NEAR US HIGHWAY 127. HERE...A BARN PARTIALLY COLLAPSED AND SEVERAL TREES WERE SNAPPED. ROOFING MATERIAL WAS REMOVED FROM THE HOUSE. DAMAGE ALONG THE LENGTH OF THE PATH IS CONSISTENT WITH WIND SPEEDS AROUND 90 MPH. THUS...THIS TORNADO HAS BEEN RATED AS A LOW-END EF1 TORNADO ON THE ENHANCED FUJITA SCALE.
