Straight-Line Wind Damage & Tornado in Dearborn County

PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WILMINGTON OH

...EF0 TORNADO AND STRAIGHT LINE WIND DAMAGE CONFIRMED IN FAR 
SOUTHERN DEARBORN COUNTY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WILMINGTON HAS DETERMINED THAT 
DAMAGE ABOUT FOUR MILES SOUTHWEST OF AURORA INDIANA IN FAR SOUTHERN 
DEARBORN COUNTY WAS CAUSED BY A BRIEF TORNADO TOUCHDOWN.

THE TORNADO DAMAGE OCCURRED ALONG COLE ROAD ABOUT HALF A MILE SOUTH 
OF US ROUTE 50...MAINLY CONFINED TO A TRAILER PARK JUST WEST OF COLE 
ROAD. THE DAMAGE OCCURRED ON JUNE 4 AT ABOUT 600 PM. FAIRLY 
SIGNIFICANT TREE DAMAGE WAS NOTED. MINOR ROOF AND STRUCTURAL DAMAGE 
OCCURRED TO HOMES AND TRAILERS AS WELL. SOME ROOFS WERE NEARLY 
LIFTED OFF OF THE TRAILERS...SUGGESTING SOME MINOR STRUCTURAL DAMAGE 
AS WELL. SKIRTING WAS BLOWN AWAY FROM NUMEROUS TRAILERS AS WELL. 
SOME TRAILERS WERE ALSO DAMAGED DUE TO THE IMPACT OF FALLING TREES.

THE TORNADO HAS BEEN RATED AN EF0 ON THE ENHANCED FUJITA 
SCALE...WITH WINDS OF 65 TO 70 MPH.

IN ADDITION...A NEIGHBORHOOD NEAR AURORA WAS SURVEYED IN DEARBORN 
COUNTY. THE DAMAGE IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD WAS DETERMINED TO BE CAUSED 
BY STRAIGHT-LINE WINDS...WHICH OCCURRED BETWEEN 605 AND 610 PM ON 
JUNE 4. NUMEROUS TREES WERE DOWNED...UPROOTED...OR SPLIT OFF. SOME 
OF THE TREES WERE VERY LARGE AND HEALTHY. STRUCTURAL DAMAGE OCCURRED 
TO SOME HOMES AND GARAGES. SOME TREES AND LARGE LIMBS FELL ON HOUSES 
AND CARS AS WELL. WIND SPEEDS IN THIS AREA WERE ESTIMATED AT 80 MPH.

THERE WERE NUMEROUS OTHER AREAS SUSTAINING STRAIGHT-LINE WIND 
DAMAGE THROUGHOUT DEARBORN COUNTY. WHILE MUCH OF IT OCCURRED DURING 
THE EVENING OF JUNE 4...SOME DAMAGE ALSO OCCURRED WITH THE FIRST 
ROUND OF THUNDERSTORMS DURING THE AFTERNOON OF JUNE 3.
