PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WILMINGTON OH 615 PM EDT FRI APR 27 2007 ...THREE TORNADOES CONFIRMED IN SOUTHERN OHIO... BROWN COUNTY... THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE STORM SURVEY CONCLUDED THAT THREE SEPARATE TORNADOES OCCURRED LAST EVENING IN SOUTHERN OHIO. THE FIRST TORNADO OCCURRED AROUND 655 PM NORTHEAST OF MACON IN BROWN COUNTY. THE DAMAGE RANGED FROM NEAR TRI COUNTY ROAD TO THE MELBLANC AND STEELE ROAD AREAS. ABOUT 5 TO 10 TREES WERE EITHER UPROOTED OR WERE SNAPPED OFF TOWARD THE TOPS...WITH ADDITIONAL LARGE BRANCHES DOWN FROM OTHER TREES. A TRAMPOLINE WAS PICKED UP AND MOVED...AND A LARGE FRONT PORCH ON A HOME ALONG STEELE ROAD WAS TORN OFF WITH THE ROOF TOSSED SEVERAL YARDS. LARGE PIECES OF SIDING AND ROOF FROM AT LEAST ONE BARN WERE CARRIED AT LEAST A HUNDRED YARDS. OTHER MINOR STRUCTURAL DAMAGE ALSO OCCURRED. SUCH DAMAGE WOULD BE CONSISTENT WITH THE UPPER END OF AN EF0 (ENHANCED FUJITIA SCALE ZERO) TORNADO...WITH WIND SPEED ESTIMATES ROUGHLY BETWEEN 80 AND 90 MPH. ADAMS COUNTY... FURTHER EAST IN ADAMS COUNTY...AN ADDITIONAL TORNADO WAS CONFIRMED IN THE PEEBLES AREA. IT IS ESTIMATED THAT THIS TORNADO OCCURRED BETWEEN 720 AND 725 PM. WITH THIS TORNADO...A STEEL STRUCTURE BARN COLLAPSED NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF ROUTES 32 AND 41. FURTHER EAST ALONG ROUTE 32 AND STEAM FURNACE ROAD...AN ENTIRE ROOF WAS PEELED OFF A HOME. THE HOME THEN SUSTAINED SEVERE WATER DAMAGE FROM HEAVY RAIN AND HAIL. THIS HOME ALSO HAD A LARGE FRONT PORCH AND BALCONY TORN OFF. IN ADDITION...ONE OF THE CHIMNEYS HAD COLLAPSED. THERE WERE AGAIN SOME TREES IN THE AREA WHICH WERE SNAPPED OFF TOWARD THE TOP. THIS DAMAGE IS CONSISTENT WITH THE LOWER END OF EF1 SCALE DAMAGE...WHICH IS ESTIMATED TO BE NEAR TO JUST ABOVE 90 MPH. THIS IS JUST ABOVE EF0 DAMAGE. PIKE COUNTY... THE SAME SUPERCELL THUNDERSTORM PRODUCED A THIRD TORNADO IN PIKE COUNTY...NEAR OMEGA. THIS TORNADO SNAPPED TWO SOFTWOOD TREES AT THEIR BASE...AND LIFTED OFF PORTIONS OF THE ROOFS OF TWO BARNS. THE GARAGE DOORS TO BOTH BARNS WERE COLLAPSED INWARD. THIS DAMAGE IS CONSISTENT WITH EF0 SCALE DAMAGE. IT IS ESTIMATED THAT THIS TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN BETWEEN 820 AND 830 PM. $$ JDR |
