PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WILMINGTON OH 501 PM EDT THU MAY 11 2006 ...BRIEF F0 TORNADO CONFIRMED IN HIGHLAND COUNTY... THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WILMINGTON HAS DETERMINED THAT DAMAGE JUST NORTH OF ROCKY FORK LAKE...OR ABOUT SIX MILES EAST OF HILLSBORO...WAS CAUSED BY A TORNADO. THE TORNADO OCCURRED ON WEDNESDAY MAY 10TH AT ABOUT 620 PM. THE DAMAGE IN HIGHLAND COUNTY WAS CONSISTENT WITH THE F0 CATEGORY ON THE FUJITA SCALE...WITH WIND SPEEDS BETWEEN 40 AND 72 MPH. THE DAMAGE WAS SCATTERED ALONG A HALF MILE PATH...BEGINNING NEAR A RESTAURANT ALONG NORTH SHORE ROAD. THE BUILDING SUSTAINED MINOR SIDING DAMAGE AND A SMALL TREE WAS DOWNED. ADDITIONAL DAMAGE WAS FOUND TO A REAL ESTATE OFFICE ALONG NORTH BEACH ROAD...JUST NORTH OF ITS INTERSECTION WITH NORTH SHORE ROAD. PORTIONS OF THE ALUMINUM ROOFING WERE PEELED BACK OR COMPLETELY RIPPED OFF. PIECES OF THE ROOF AND FIBERGLASS WERE STREWN IN SEVERAL DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS FROM THE BUILDING ITSELF. THE MOST EXTENSIVE DAMAGE OCCURRED AT A RESIDENCE ABOUT A TENTH OF A MILE NORTH-NORTHEAST OF THE REAL ESTATE OFFICE. THE RIDGE OF THE ROOF WAS COMPLETELY BROKEN...WITH SHINGLES PEELED IN NUMEROUS AREAS. SEVERAL PARTS OF THE GUTTERS WERE REMOVED AND DEPOSITED 50- 100 FEET TO THE NORTHEAST OF THE HOUSE. AN ENCLOSED ROOM ON THE FRONT PATIO WAS COMPLETELY REMOVED FROM THE DECK...WITH THE MAJORITY OF THE STRUCTURE BEING DEPOSITED INTO A DECK AND ABOVE-GROUND POOL BEHIND THE HOUSE. THIS RESULTED IN ADDITIONAL DAMAGE TO BOTH THE DECK AND THE POOL. THE PATIO FURNITURE AND OTHER SMALL DEBRIS WERE STREWN IN SEVERAL DIFFERENT LOCATIONS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE HOUSE...EXTENDING NORTHEAST INTO A FIELD BEHIND THE RESIDENCE. A FEW TREES BETWEEN 6 AND 12 INCHES IN DIAMETER WERE SNAPPED FROM THE REAL ESTATE OFFICE TO THE RESIDENCE. $$ RYAN/CONIGLIO |
