PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WILMINGTON OH 735 PM EDT SAT SEP 27 2003 ...WARREN COUNTY DAMAGE SURVEY FOR STORMS THAT OCCURRED EARLY SATURDAY MORNING... A STORM MOVED THROUGH BUTLER COUNTY AND INTO WARREN COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST OHIO BETWEEN 100 AM AND 130 AM THIS MORNING. THIS STORM MOVED ACROSS WARREN COUNTY BETWEEN 135 AM AND 200 AM. NO DEATHS OR INJURIES WERE REPORTED WITH THIS STORM. THE FIRST DAMAGE OCCURRED BETWEEN 135 AM AND 145 AM. THE PRIMARY DAMAGE OCCURRED ALONG A PATH FROM MASON...NORTHEAST THROUGH THE KINGS ISLAND AREA...TO SOUTH LEBANON AND THEN NORTHEAST THROUGH TURTLE CREEK TOWNSHIP TO NEAR INTERSTATE 71. THE DAMAGE PATH WAS RELATIVELY NARROW...BUT BECOMING MORE BROAD IN SOUTH LEBANON. THE HARDEST HIT AREAS ALONG THIS PATH INCLUDED A BUILDING ON MASON-MONTGOMERY ROAD IN MASON...KINGS HIGH SCHOOL...SOUTH LEBANON AND AN AREA NORTHEAST OF SOUTH LEBANON WHERE NUMEROUS TREES WERE DOWN AND SOME PROPERTY DAMAGE OCCURRED. ALL THE DAMAGE SURVEYED APPEARED CONSISTENT WITH STRAIGHT-LINE OR DOWNBURST DAMAGE. IN SOME AREAS THE STORM PRODUCED WINDS ESTIMATED AT 75 TO 80 MPH...AND IN ISOLATED LOCATIONS ESTIMATED WINDS OVER 100 MPH WERE NOTED. ...DARKE COUNTY DAMAGE SURVEY FOR STORMS THAT OCCURRED FRIDAY NIGHT... A DAMAGE SURVEY WAS CONDUCTED IN DARKE COUNTY TODAY. THE DAMAGE SURVEYED INDICATED A WEAK TORNADO OCCURRED AT ABOUT 11 PM. THE BRIEF TOUCH DOWN OCCURRED JUST SOUTHWEST OF BURKETTSVILLE. THE PATH LENGTH WAS 3/4 OF A MILE AND THE PATH WIDTH WAS 100 TO 150 FEET. THE TORNADO WAS ESTIMATED TO BE A F1 TORNADO WITH WINDS BETWEEN 73 AND 112 MPH. NO DEATHS OR INJURIES OCCURRED. ONE BARN ROOF WAS BLOWN OFF AND ONE BARN WAS DESTROYED. TWO SILOS WERE DAMAGED AS WELL. ...SHELBY COUNTY DAMAGE SURVEY FOR STORMS THAT OCCURRED LATE FRIDAY NIGHT... A DAMAGE SURVEY WAS CONDUCTED IN SHELBY COUNTY TODAY. THE DAMAGE SURVEY INDICATED THAT THE STORM PRODUCED STRAIGHT-LINE WIND DAMAGE IN SALEM TOWNSHIP...SEVERAL MILES NORTHEAST OF SIDNEY. DAMAGE FROM THE STORM OCCURRED AT APPROXIMATELY 1135 PM. SEVERAL HOMES SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE AND ONE SUSTAINED MAJOR DAMAGE. NUMEROUS TREES WERE DOWNED AND UPROOTED. WINDS WITH THE STORM WERE ESTIMATED AT 100 TO 120 MPH. $$ |
